Choosing the Best Cross Trainer For Your Money
The Elliptical Cross Trainer is a popular piece of gym equipment, having gained a huge fan base over recent years. There are many reasons for their popularity and if you are looking to purchase one right now there are several things you should bear in mind.
The cross trainer was originally conceived to offer a low impact exercise routine whilst providing a good cardio workout. Unlike a treadmill (also known as a running machine) your feet never leave the foot plates so there is really very little stress or tension on your ankle, knee and hip joints. For this reason, they are popular with all ages and abilities and can even be used by people who suffer from joint problems. The exercise routine is smooth and steady making you comfortable whilst you exercise. And if you are comfortable you will enjoy the workout session a lot more, adding to your motivation.
When shopping for a cross trainer there are a number of things you need to look out for. After all, if you want to really get in shape you need to buy a good quality machine.
- Length of stride
This is crucial - if the stride is too long then you may pull your muscles. If the stride is too short you will not be effectively exercising your legs. It is a really important consideration if you are tall or short.
- Resistance levels
With cheaper belt models you may be able to tighten the belt to increase resistance. Electric cross trainers will usually include a number of programmes which will add resistance through the routine. If you vary your routine you will have a much better workout.
- Size and space required
You can buy elliptical cross trainers that are fixed in size and once assembled cannot be folded away. If space is at a premium then you should perhaps look for a folding model, however, it may be more basic.
- Technology
With some of the higher end elliptical cross trainers you will find a wealth of gadgets and technology. At the top of the price range you will find them with TV screens. Others include i-pod docking stations, LCD displays and even a cooling fan.
Whichever cross trainer you choose to buy you need to bear in mind that the results will only be as good as the effort you put in. Don't allow it to languish in the corner of your spare bedroom! Get moving - you will be impressed with the results.

Am I losing quality when buying a kids fitness shoe?
I am an adult that can wear a kids size 5½ in a sneaker. I tend to buy those because they are cheaper in price. However, Im concerned if Im losing the quality of a cross trainer by purchasing the kids version. Are there any recommendations?

To help get a better handle on your question may I suggest you concentrate on both the fit and the quality of the shoe you have in mind. Some makers extend their adult sizes into the smaller size ranges, other quality makers make a comparable line of kids shoes. For example in shoes we are most familiar with both Keen and Vasque make a pretty decent shoe for kids. They cost less and do give up some things in their construction.
From our perspective (we have both an online shoe store and a information site helping people do all the right steps when choosing shoes) your first objective is to make sure the shoe fits properly. Second is to make sure you have the correct type of shoe for what you intend to use it for.
We know that over 85% of North Americans wear shoes that do not fit properly - 85%! That's crazy. Why not make sure of that part first? Why keep making the foot care business the money maker it is?

Second you do get what you pay for. If you look at it from a manufacturer's point of view, they don't often see parents with kids willing to part with $100-$200-$300 for a good pair of cross trainers. They lower the price. To do so they have to give something up. This is even more the case when they know the shoe will be replaced likely much sooner than an adult would because the child's feet grow more quickly in the earlier years.

How can I find pretty shoes for large feet?
Last pair of shoes I bought were New Balance cross trainers in men's size 114E....I have a wide foot with a HIGH arch....have always had trouble finding shoes that weren't orthopedic looking! Yes I've seen zappos.com but nothing is there. Any other websites for female shoes? Or even how to get my own shoes made? No cobblers around me. Help! Southern Calif....Thanks!
did you try drew shoe. Drew shoe sells some pretty shoes designed for people with wide feet. they had some nice cause shoes for me, maybe they will have something for you.
